Strawbs anno 2004 exist in two versions - an acoustic trio and an electric quintet - and it is "electric Strawbs" who have produced this record. The line-up is identical to the one that made "Hero And Heroine", and the result also is closer to H&H than what we have heard from them for quite some thime. Songs like "Under A Cloudless Sky", "This Barren Land" (with melody lifted from "Jerusalem") and "Russian Front" show Strawbs from a heavy, almost symphonic side. Perhaps not quite as good as in their prime years, the compositions are a bit too simple for that. But with "Déjà Fou", Strawbs have made a completely acceptable record - and David Cousins' voice is as magical as it ever was.
