In this recording from ProgDay 1997, Finisterre performs a selection of tracks from their two albums, In Limine and In Ogno…. If it had not been sufficiently evident on their studio albums, they clearly show here that their main influence is PFM. Compositions, performance and instrumentation oozes this classic Italian 70s prog group.

There is nothing wrong with this concert, the band shows energy, skill and enthusiasm, and the sound is great (very "live"). But the final touch which should make this a great concert adventure is unfortunately missing. Personally, I feel this is due to the lack of memorable melodies. The songs are not badly written, but the compositions become too anonymous and stagnant. They also perform a cover of PFM’s Alta Loma, which is no more than a ten minute jam over two chords. Machinaaqua Machinaluna also has a certain jam mark, which they admittedly tighten up towards the end.

Additionally, I miss variation both in the music and the performance. It may be Finisterre’s aim to be the PFM of our time, but do you acquire that through sounding the most like them?

This concert has previously been released under the title Live At Prog Day 97, however, without the PFM cover Alta Loma.
